The Gold Standard

Our Story

In 2018, a young Ghanaian lawyer and entrepreneur envisioned a bold new path for gold mining in Ghana — one that merged local opportunity with global standards. This vision gave birth to Typhoon Greenfield Development Limited, a company built on the belief that small-scale gold mining can be deliberately responsible, ethical, and internationally competitive. After two years of exploration works and securing the necessary permits and licenses, Typhoon began operations in 2020 on its Adanse Adomanu cluster of small-scale concessions close to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region of the republic of Ghana.

Our Mission

Typhoon

To build a world-class small-scale mining company that upholds international standards, protects the environment, empowers communities, and contributes to Ghana’s economic and ethical gold goals.

Standards and Certifications

From its early days, Typhoon set out to exceed regulatory expectations. In 2021, under the auspices of Development Gold International, Typhoon launched an internal standardization project focused on:

  • Good Governance
  • Safe & Dignified Working Conditions
  • Environmental Protection

Working with TDi Sustainability, Typhoon developed a performance framework aligned with:

  • OECD Due Diligence Guidance
  • London Bullion Market Association (LBMA)
  • Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA)
  • ILO Child Labour Conventions
  • World Bank Resettlement Policies

This commitment culminated in 2022, when Typhoon became the first and only small-scale mine in Ghana to be certified and onboarded by MKS Pamp, one of the world’s most respected LBMA refineries. Typhoon also became the first small-scale company enrolled in the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme — a major step in building Ghana’s ethical gold reserves.
