The Gold Standard

In 2025, under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II (King of Ashanti) and the Mining in Motion initiative, Typhoon achieved a landmark breakthrough:

Successfully minted Ghana’s first-ever Good Delivery Green Gold in partnership with MKS Pamp and under the supervision of the Swiss Better Gold Association.

This historic event marks the realization of a seven-year dream — proving that small-scale mining can lead with integrity, global compliance, and environmental care.

Why Typhoon

At Typhoon Greenfield Development Limited, we don’t just extract gold — we deliver transparency, traceability, and trust at every step of the value chain. In an industry often criticized for its lack of structure and ethical oversight, Typhoon stands apart as a pioneer in small-scale mining with a bold mission:
to redefine what responsible mining looks like in Ghana and across Africa.

Our unique approach combines local empowerment with global standards, creating a model that not only benefits our stakeholders, but also uplifts the communities we serve and protects the environment for generations to come.

Typhoon is the first and only small-scale mining company in Ghana certified under both the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA) standards. These certifications are internationally recognized and reflect our unwavering commitment to responsible sourcing, environmental stewardship, and supply chain due diligence.

In partnership with Development Gold International and TDi Sustainability, Typhoon developed internal performance standards that align with international frameworks such as:

  • OECD Due Diligence Guidance

  • LBMA Responsible Gold Guidance

  • SBGA Sourcing Strategy

  • ILO Guidelines on Child Labour

  • World Bank Resettlement Policies

These frameworks govern our operations and ensure that every ounce of gold we produce meets stringent ethical and social benchmarks.

In 2022, we funded the rehabilitation of 180 acres of land degraded by illegal mining and planted 15,000 coconut trees—a bold environmental recovery initiative executed in partnership with the Ashanti Green Initiative.

Despite setbacks from continued illegal encroachment, our commitment to land restoration and climate resilience remains strong.

We are proud to be the first small-scale mining company enrolled in the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme — a strategic national initiative to build Ghana’s gold reserves through ethical and traceable local sourcing. This partnership affirms Typhoon’s place at the forefront of Ghana’s efforts to formalize and professionalize its gold sector.

We believe mining must benefit the people. That’s why Typhoon has implemented robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs that include:

  • Royalty payments to traditional authorities every 40 days

  • Support for local healthcare, sanitation, and education

  • Funding of civic infrastructure including palaces and community centers

  • Ongoing road maintenance and public works

While others fear regulation, we embrace it. Typhoon’s systems are designed to be transparent, auditable, and export-ready, making us a trustworthy partner for government, investors, and ethical refineries worldwide.
