Kwaku Afrifa Nsiah-Asare is a Ghanaian lawyer, serial entrepreneur, and business leader known for his pioneering work in several business endeavours, notably the transformation of Ghanaian small-scale gold mining through responsible practices, traceability, and global standardisation.
After being called to the Ghana Bar in 2010, Kwaku began his legal career at Okomfo Anokye Chambers in Kumasi, before moving to AngloGold Ashanti where he handled the corporate litigation portfolio for the company’s Ghana operations. He later joined SORY@LAW, one of Ghana’s leading litigation firms, where he serves as Senior Partner in the Corporate and Constitutional Law Department, leading several high-profile cases.
Kwaku holds a Master’s degree in Law and Finance, which underpins his ability to bridge legal rigor with commercial strategy. Since founding and leading the Typhoon Group, his leadership has seen the company emerge as Ghana’s foremost small-scale mining firm certified under both LBMA (London Bullion Market Association) and SBGA (Swiss Better Gold Association) Standards; traits rarely achieved in this sector.
Under his stewardship, Typhoon has spearheaded landmark initiatives. Most notably, the company developed an in-house standardisation programme and partnered with MKS PAMP and Development Gold International to produce and present Ghana’s first fully traceable, responsibly mined small-scale gold bars at the Mining in Motion Summit. This achievement marked a major turning point in ASGM (artisanal & small-scale gold mining) formalization on the African Continent in general and underscored Ghana’s capacity in particular to supply gold that meets international compliance and sustainability benchmarks.
Kwaku is also vocal about the challenges of responsible mining and the need for sustainability and environmental sensitivity. He has emphasized the cost of compliance, the need to combat illegal mining, land reclamation, and the importance of strong regulatory partnerships at regional and national levels.
His strategy includes expanding Typhoon’s mining portfolio, investing in exploration, integrating local institutions (such as the University of Mines and Technology) for skills development, and upholding international environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
A man of many caps, Kwaku is also actively in pursuit of Farming, Jewelry manufacturing and Real Estate Development. He co-founded MARINE MASTERS SERVICES LIMITED an Upstream Oil and Gas Support Service Company where he previously sat as an Executive Director.
He has exhibited good leadership skills throughout his education and working life; this has been fueled by a desire to contribute to the Political and socio-economic advancement of continental Africa.
Until 2025, Kwaku was the Secretary and legal advisor to the governing Board of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the Republic of Ghana and a member of the Appeals Committee of Ghana Football Association. He is a member of the Free, Ancient and Accepted Mason of the English Constitution. Besides these he also serves as follows in his professional Capacity;
