Sustainability

Home Sustainability

At Typhoon Greenfield Development Limited, sustainability is not an afterthought — it is at the very heart of our operations. From the moment we envisioned our Adomanu concession, we committed to building a responsible small-scale mine that balances gold production with environmental care, social responsibility, and ethical governance.

We believe that how we mine today determines the future of our communities, our environment, and our nation’s wealth. That is why every step of our work is guided by international standards, regulatory compliance, and a deep respect for the people and land of Ghana.

Environmental Stewardship

We recognize the environmental challenges caused by irresponsible mining and are determined to set a new benchmark for small-scale mining in Ghana.

  • Land Rehabilitation: In partnership with the Ashanti Green Initiative, we reclaimed over 180 acres of degraded land and cultivated 15,000 coconut trees to restore biodiversity and create long-term community value.

  • Eco-Friendly Mining: Our gold recovery process is gravity-based, avoiding the use of mercury and cyanide to protect water bodies and soil fertility.

  • Water Management: We use settling ponds and recycling systems to minimize water waste and prevent river contamination.

  • Tailings & Waste Control: Dedicated tailings storage and safe disposal methods ensure environmental integrity.

Community Empowerment

For us, sustainability means uplifting people. We invest directly in the development and well-being of the communities where we operate.

  • Royalty Payments: A private royalty stream payable every 40 days supports traditional authorities and ensures continuous local benefit.

  • Healthcare Support: We built and continue to support a community health facility, improving access to quality medical care.

  • Infrastructure Development: Typhoon has contributed to the construction of two palaces, a modern community center, public places of convenience, and road rehabilitation.

  • Education & Employment: Over 70% of our workforce is recruited locally and trained in modern mining practices, creating skills and livelihoods for the future.

Ethical Governance

Typhoon is the first and only small-scale mining company in Ghana certified under both the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and the Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA) standards.

  • Compliance: Our operations are aligned with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance, ILO guidelines, and World Bank safeguards.

  • Transparency: Enrolled in the Bank of Ghana Domestic Gold Purchase Programme, we supply ethical, traceable gold that strengthens Ghana’s reserves.

  • Global Leadership: Through our certification with MKS PAMP, our gold meets the highest international standards for responsible sourcing.

Our Commitment

Sustainability at Typhoon means responsible mining with a purpose — delivering gold that is clean, ethical, and beneficial to all stakeholders.

We mine with integrity, restore with responsibility, and build with communities — because the future of gold is green, and together, we are setting the gold standard for sustainable mining in Ghana.
